From Bishop’s University

Are you an education student at Bishop’s University? Do you major (or minor) in Teaching English as a Second Language, English Language Arts (secondary), or Primary Education? Are you interested in teaching English language through literature? Do you want to go on a semester-long exchange in Norway? If you answered “yes” to the questions above, the ELLiL project is a perfect option for you!

What can I study at Nord University?

You can choose from the following courses:

Compulsory course: English Language and Literature Teaching (ENG1002), 15 ECTS (7.5 credits)

Electives:

British Studies (SP171L), 15 ECTS

Business English (SP203L), 10 ECTS

International English (SP123L), 5 ECTS

American Fiction after 1945 (SP229), 10 ECTS

Language Science and Language Play (SP236L), 10 ECTS

Epic Poetry after 1900 (ENG2004), 10 ECTS

Norwegian for Foreigners (NO106L), 10 ECTS

**Experience of Nature (ENT102L), 10 ECTS

**Experience Pedagogy (ENT104L), 10 ECTS

**Experience of Art, Architecture and Cultural Knowledge (ENT105L), 10 ECTS

** enrollment depends on availability; students who select the full Experience Package are prioritised.

You will also experience teaching practice with a Norwegian school mentor once a week in a school in the region.

What about the number of credits?

In total, you will be registered for 24-30 ETCS, i.e., 12-15 Canadian credits.

When can I study there?

You are eligible to apply when you have finished or are in the process of completing your second-year practicum. This program is for a fall semester exchange only.

What are the costs? Are there any scholarships?

You will pay the semester fee as usual to Bishop’s University but no tuition fees to Nord University. Your costs include: travel, food, insurance, study material and accommodation. You will receive two scholarships, paid in NOK, which equals at the November 2022 exchange rate:

CAD 3,147 towards expenses for the semester at Nord University and

CAD 1,350 towards travel costs

I would like to travel with a fellow student. Is that possible?

The project supports the exchange of two students from each country per year.

What are the application procedures for ELLiL?

Visit the Bishop’s international exchange website and follow the instructions to submit an application to Bishop’s International by January 31, 2023.

Am I eligible for exchange?

If you meet the following criteria, you are eligible to apply for the ELLiL project:

  • Apart from the Exchange Application Form from Bishop’s International, you also need to submit a reference letter from a Bishop’s professor and an associate teacher or a supervisor on your academic performance, teaching practice, professionalism, personality and other specialized skills, etc. Please submit the whole package to Bishop’s International (exchange@ubishops.ca).
